Recommended Image Sizes for Print Calendars

When adding images (such as icons, legends, clip art, or logos) to your print calendars, choosing the right image size will help ensure your calendars look clear and professional when printed. This article outlines recommended image sizes and explains how to calculate them if you need to adjust for different calendar layouts.

Images placed inside a calendar cell (monthly calendars)

If you are uploading an image into an empty cell on a monthly print calendar (for example, an icon legend or small visual marker), we recommend the following size:

Recommended size (monthly, 1-page calendar):
900 × 1088 pixels (width × height)

Why this works

  • A single cell on a 1-page monthly calendar has an aspect ratio that fits well with this size.

  • This resolution is suitable for high-quality printing (300 DPI).

  • The image will scale cleanly without appearing blurry or pixelated.

Tip: Images should always be created in landscape or portrait based on how they will appear, and saved at high resolution even if they appear smaller on screen.

Images placed in the calendar header (logos)

If you are adding an image to the header area of a print calendar (such as a company logo), a wider landscape image works best.

Recommended header image size:
1200 × 630 pixels (landscape)

This size provides enough resolution for print while fitting nicely across the top of the calendar without overpowering the content below.

How to calculate image sizes for other calendar layouts

Calendar cell sizes vary depending on:

  • Number of pages (1-page vs. 2-page calendars)

  • Calendar type (monthly, weekly, or daily)

  • Page size and orientation

To calculate a printable image size:

  1. Start with the on-screen pixel size of the calendar cell.

  2. Multiply both the width and height by 4.

    • This converts screen resolution (~72 DPI) to print quality (~300 DPI).

  3. Use the resulting dimensions to create your image.

Example:

  • Cell size on screen: 225 × 272 px

  • Printable image size:
    225 × 4 = 900 px
    272 × 4 = 1088 px

  • Final image size: 900 × 1088 px

This method ensures your images remain sharp and print correctly.

Best practices

  • Always design images at print resolution, even if they appear small.

  • Keep icons and legends simple for readability.

  • Test-print your calendar if you’re unsure about sizing or placement.
