Welbi Masterclass: Tailoring your Programs to Meet your Resident's Needs

This Masterclass will help users get familiar with Welbi's Insights features to improve their programming and make it more meaningful and personalized for your current residents!

Why Tailoring your Programming is Important:

Appeal to the new generation of older adults
: Today’s seniors are living in a hyper-personalized world; they expect a tailored experience that is aligned with there interests and preferences.

Wellness & engagement are not one-size-fits-all:
Getting to know the unique interests of residents as they come and go from your community ensures that your programming is aligned with your current residents, keeps your programming innovative and engaging, and it makes meaningful activities possible for all residents.

Improved quality of life and increased engagement: Residents will be more inclined to participate when they feel that the programs that are run are meant for them. This can improve their overall quality of life, provide a sense of belonging and purpose, and give them an opportunity to enjoy themselves, meet new people, and avoid social isolation.

Encourages “outside the box” thinking: Part of tailoring your programs is working with resident’s strengths and barriers and introducing adaptations and modifications to better meet the needs of residents so that participation can take place, no matter a resident’s barriers.

Getting to Know Your Residents:

Resident Profile & Assessment Insights

  • Resident Profile Insights give you an overall picture of the residents in your community and can assist with program ideas, tailoring your programs, and connecting residents based on shared interests and backgrounds.
    • Examples: Religion, Language, Favourite Music/Books, Hometowns.
  • Resident Assessment Insights help you learn your resident’s preferences and interests and help you with scheduling, program planning, and the types of programs your residents enjoy.
    • Examples: Hobbies and Interests, Time of Day Preferences, Dimension of Wellness Preferences.

NEXT STEPS:

Take a minute to look through these pages in your own community. Any surprises or things that stood out to you in your resident data?

Review Program Insights

  • Your program insights can give you some great insight into the programs you’re running, attendance data and if your programs are meeting the interests of your residents. Have a look at the following Insights:
    • Most and Least Attended Programs
    • Resident Hobbies & Interests vs. Programs Offered
    • Total Attendance Insights
    • Resident Attendance

NEXT STEPS:
Once you’ve reviewed your program insights, have a look at your program calendar for next month.

  • What have you noticed about your insights vs. your schedule and upcoming programs?
  • Is there alignment between them?
  • Are there any changes you could make to tailor your programming to your residents?
  • Does anything surprise you?

Ideas to Personalize your Resident's Experience:

  • Smaller Group Programs: In instances where you’re trying to meet your resident’s interests, but maybe they don’t like big groups or their interests are a bit more niche, you can use the resident filter or your Resident Insights to find others who may wish to connect based on a shared background or interest.
    • Ex: Introduce a new resident who has German as a first language to the couple other residents and host a coffee for them.
  • One-on-One Programs: Review an individual resident’s assessment and profile, as well as their resident engagement insights to learn more about this resident to develop a plan for some upcoming one-on-ones.
    • Ex: If a resident loves reading the newspaper, schedule a time to visit and discuss the latest current events with them.
  • Self-Directed Activities: Some residents may not be keen on group programs or 1-on-1 visits and like to do things independently. Learning about this resident can help you provide some activities for them to do on their own time.
    • Ex: If they like to listen to Classical music, order a new CD each month from the library for them to listen to in their room.
